I love my freezer. Freezers allow us to preserve food for much longer than we’d be able to without them, like meat and fresh berries, and they’re also where I can find some of my favourite treats, like ice cream! Finding food in the freezer is especially nice when I’m hungry and want a quick snack or too lazy to go to the grocery store. There’s one potential downside to freezers, but we’ll get to that.

There are so many benefits to freezing food! For people who use a freezer to its full potential, it’s a money-saver, time-saver and helpful in maintaining a healthy nutrition. Families who have a monthly meal strategy can shop for groceries once (or a few times a month) and then freeze most of the ingredients for later use, which allows them to save a significant amount of money, especially if they watch out for sales. Ingredients and meals can be prepared ahead of time on (like weekends) and then re-heated during the week for some healthy home-cooked meals on workdays.

However, people who aren’t very organized can end up with frozen food from who knows when. Though food can never really go bad in the freezer, its quality may deteriorate so much over time that it becomes inedible. That’s why it’s very important to keep track of food freezing dates!

To make things super easy, just apply a freezer label to the food packaging with information on what’s inside and when it was frozen. And don’t forget to follow the recommended frozen food storage times in this infographic!
