Milton is a small town in Southern Ontario, Canada, and part of the Halton Region in the Greater Toronto Area. It’s about 40km west of Downtown Toronto and on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. And of course, Milton is where my little sis, Suzy, lives!
Three quick facts about Milton:
- Between 2001 and 2006 Milton was the fastest growing municipality in the Greater Golden Horseshoe area, with a 71.4% increase in population. In early 2014, Milton’s population is estimated to be 102,000.
- Canadian celebrity astronaut Chris Hadfield grew up in Milton and has a school named after him here.
- Milton was named after the English poet John Milton, author of Paradise Lost.

a quick intro
Susanna (aka Suzy) grew up in Toronto but recently moved to Milton (which is still close enough to Toronto for easy visits to her family). Some of the things she likes best about living in Milton are its close proximity to great conservation areas (she enjoys running and hiking) and that it maintains a small town charm. Suzy loves eating out, travelling and trying new foods, making her the perfect ‘little sis/taste-tester/cheerleader/partner-in-crime/’ to Stephanie (aka kitchenfrolic).

La Rose has been serving Milton for over 30 years and it’s a real gem. In addition to being a small grocery store with all your everyday needs, it boasts an incredible deli, hot table and bakery section. All foods are prepared on site and fresh daily and the quality is amazing. They stock an impressive amount of imported goodies, and come special holidays (such as Christmas) they have amazing food related gift items. Other awesome things about La Rose: there is a small dine-in area, they cater & do birthday/wedding cakes, and they support local charities through fun events such as the annual Italia Fest.

Just a few steps away from La Rose, is Memphis BBQ. Their ribs are always super tender & juicy, and smothered in delicious sauce. Their portions are always generous & they offer great party packs deals. Eat-in or take-out.

Located in Milton’s historic downtown is Thai House Cuisine. They Serve authentic Thai food & are even recognized by the Thai Government with a “Thai Select Award”, the seal of approval for truly authentic Thai cuisine. The staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious. They also have a weekday lunch special. Eat-in or take-out.
Favourite dishes: calamari appetizer, duck curry
